Reading this book was the first time that I considered that there might have been people who lived in Germany who were against Hitler. Based on a true story this book clearly shows that some German citizens were against the Hitler regime. This book also shows what happened to those who were against Hitler. The Gestapo abuse and the bias legal system that was prevalent during the war years.

There was a very interesting opinion that was cast by the book that was particularly thought provoking. Hitler sent so many young boys to their death in the war with no concern for their mothers as he didn't have a mother so had no concept of their anxiety.

This book is thought provoking and well written. However, if I was to have one criticism the book had too many characters in it. It was hard to relate to them all and in the end you found yourself caring about fewer of them.

If you like history books that teach you a little about society then this book is for you. Well worth a read.
