Valeen Gonzalez Eh I never pay attention to stupid PR stuff. I also never listen to critics. I like to watch to find out for myself. But as I haven't read the books, I could enjoy (or not) the movies on their own. I have heard that alot of people who read the books didn't like the movies. -
Richard Craig Lyons @valeen @valeen When I read well crafted/written books the characters are carefully developed. One forms a mental image of these characters by which we judge Hollywood casting decisions. Three actors have starred as the novelist Tom Clancy character "Jack Ryan". Alec Baldwin, Harrison Ford and Ben Affleck. Baldwin and Ford fit the image. Ben? When his turn came he was way too "baby faced" for the role. It's been rumored that Ryan Gosling is the next Jack Ryan. Poor poor casting. A novelist has time to develop his characters within the novel's framework. A screenwriter has to translate this to fit a finished product of approximately two hours. Add casting mismatch with development time compression and you're well on the way to be disappointed IF you've read the novel first! If you read after watching you are generally pleasantly surprised. Purely my thoughts... -
Valeen Gonzalez I saw Gosling in Drive and became a fan of his for the first time. But I cannot picture him as Jack Ryan either. He's just too young looking I think. Ben Affleck sucked as Jack and I can't stand Baldwin (although his performance was ok I thought) so for me the ultimate was Harrison Ford. I haven't read the books so couldn't comment on whether he was in line with the books.

Movie is on right now. The book was way better.

lauriefs Meant agree. Definitely. Da Vinci code too. Most books are better than their subsequent movies. -
Lloyd A. Duke @lauriefs so true. After reading them and hearing about the Da Vinci code movie I thought Angels & Demons would be a better movie. IMHO that wasn't the case although they were both well done.
