"City people don't think anything important happens in a place like Dime Box. And usually it doesn't, unless you call conflict important. Or love or babies or dying."

Cultural anthropologist/historian/journalist William Trogdon travels the country's backroads, along the way talking to anyone who will listen, listening to anyone who will talk. When he lets the people and places speak for themselves, his book comes alive. When he waxes philosophical -- which he tends to do a lot, unfortunately -- my attention wanders. Overall good book, but not always the easiest read.
