My favorite book to read as a little girl! Read it over and over. Very sad story, but a great one. As a child, I was exposed to a lot of death, especially on my mother's side of the family. I think it did me some good because I view death as a very natural part of life...not really scared to deal with it. Of course, we don't want to die, but it is inevitable. The book leaves us with hope- the classic theme about the circle of life. Life goes on..and we hold the memory of our loved ones dear! Learned that at a very young age. Great book for a pre-teen. The animated movie is great too. Dakota Fanning played Fern in the motion picture.

My elder daughter is reading this to herself and reminding me that she and I and her sister all cried the first time we read it together when Charlotte died. Great dad memory. :)
