Hitting the climax. I wonder how their planet will look like? Dense and gravitationaly low certainly, but what wonders! I'm living vicariously through Jan-- I feel like its me about to embark on a great interstellar journey. Clarke was brilliant, both in imaginative scope and verbosity.

Vivienne D'Avalon I guess it was depressing for me because in my hopes for the singularity and transhumanism, we keep what's best of humanity and don't turn into animalistic creatures -- the power to move the heavens, yes; but preferably not destroying earth in the process! Having finished the first three chapters, I now know where the opening episode of "V" came from. I wonder how much of this book was stolen for that series?
