This is my first book on tape and I'm having trouble following everything. Does anyone else have this problem? GREAT from the beginning. The name popped up in comments under stories of the recent deaths and everyone said what a great read it is. The last time I couldn't put a book down was The DaVinci Code if that gives u any indication of how u will be glued to it from page one!

After hearing about the deaths and missing climbers on Everest over the weekend, I thought I'd dig this up and reread it. And once I get on one of these Everest kicks, this surely won't be last one I read. This stuff is just too fascinating to put down.

Great book but I am not a mountaineer....the hardships these people go through is unbelievable and what an expensive hobby or lifestyle to have. Pretty remarkable!

Actually, I read this a while ago, while I was still at MSR, we lost many friends and the whole outdoor industry was deeply saddened and affected by this event. We held our breath till we learned the whole story. Reading the book, well, that was just a very real reminder how we must respect the mountain, every day.

m1nd5n4r3 @kat0711 not really. They are all unique. Each one is a telling of the events from 3 different perspectives. The only thing I thought was they read at different speeds. Thin air was kinda fast and attention grabbing. Left for dead is a bit slower but a amazing at the same time. The climb I though was the slowest but it's also the longest. But you read about the battles Anatoli had with climbers, guides and everything in between along with his role is trying to rescue. All 3 books are about the same time period but two different extreme "TOUR" groups that became one to try and stay alive. Instead of one telling you get it from 3 sides completely different views. There are other survivors that did not put out books telling their sides, I wish they would. All 3 are worth the read. Gives you a whole new meaning of respecting a mountain and the tough decisions these guys willing to take the chance have to make with no other options except death....... Another good read is , "touch the top o

One of my favorite books, which is kind of scary considering the subject matter. It made me into a bit of an obsessive about Everest.
