one of my favorite reads of the year! brilliantly written mix of time travel sci-fi and historical fiction from the times of slavery. a devastatingly powerful book that everyone should read!

My all time favorite book. This book fills me with anger. The most powerful book about slavery I have ever read and it is fiction. Must read.

Butler was the first American black writer of science fiction. She brings to her work a unique perspective perspective that is often raw in a way that stays with you for a long time afterward. This book is an interesting counter-balance for those of us that loved Time Traveller's Wife.
