love the way he writes, the story flows like music

Pretty good so far. A little boring at times, but I think that's the point.

Reading Adam Thorpe's really rather splendid new translation. So far, it's vastly better than the other translation I've attempted.

If I read enough Flaubert, I may one day understand his parrot.

Didn't abadoned this bo ok because it's a classic and bla bla, but it was a boring reading.

Finished the book, and its a great novel. See? Suburban housewives were bored, and lived beyond their means even way back then.

I'm trying to stay into it. Not happening.

Poor woman, pathologic insatisfaction was the cause of her death. She lived in a dream.

Still, a lot of people here do seem to thinks it's a great book, so maybe I will enjoy it.

Perfect novel, that has stood the test of time.

This has taken me wayyy too long to finish! Its depressing..but still a good classic. Hopefully the endings good.

The first time I read this was in its original language. Needless to say I only got through about five words of it. The second time, I marveled at how skillfully Flaubert shows a woman's boredom and frustration with her marriage. I'm now reading a free e-book and the translation is a little wonky, but it's enjoyable nevertheless.

Emma is a true psychotic. No interests, no morals, no empathy. And yet seen from her own perspective ( the reader's ability to empathize) so pitiable, so charming.

It's huge & yet delicate Truly a masterpiece. I wish I could read it in French.

Reading it and although I like it, can't wait to finish it.

This is the best book I've ever had to read for school.

Loving this book. Rodolphe is such a cad and Emma so flighty and discontent with herself and her life - a doomed affair I do believe!

Emma dead. Charles dead. Berthe must. Work at a cotton mill The end. Much more tragic an ending than the film.
