So glad Geek & Sundry picked up Sword & Laser. Thanks to S&L, I started reading this wonderful book. Well written with post-modernist touches. Unlike "safe" on the rails fantasy which follow a formulaic quest, this book feels somehow more dangerous. Fantastic.

Only about 145 pages in, still unsure how I feel about it.

So far, so... kinda good - down with "Book 1", bring it on "Book 2"!

One of my favorite books of all time! For all those who havent finished it yet, when your done... listen to 30 seconds to mars, Kings & Queens ... IMMEDIATELY!! Best book Ive read in a long time.

Starting this once I finish The Hunger Games trilogy.

Was okay. A lot of Narnia and Potter parallels that I wasn't crazy about.

Finally finished, overall it was a fantastic ride. There are many moments in this novel I will never forget. I really loved the first half and it's adult riff on Harry Potter, it's so exquisitely written. The Narnia inspired third quarter wasn't quite as interesting but the ending was ultimately fulfilling. Because the characters are morose and so damaged, I understand why it's rather a love it or hate it book. Overly happy people and fans of simple prose won't enjoy the elegance and the numerous underlying levels but others will find lots to love.
