Well, I cannot in good conscience say I loved it. Fact is, a portion of the book tainted it for me, which is a shame because it is in many ways a lovely book. I will put no spoilers in print. Perhaps others would not be bothered as I was by a certain turn of events in the last quarter or so of the novel. Nor is it so terribly dire that I found myself unable to persevere. I'm still glad I read it. But it was very much like having a very nice piece of cake and finding a hair in it after you'd eaten most of the plate.

This book started out a bit slow, but almost finished and now I don't want it to end. It picked up after you got to know the characters, and now I say this is a very good book. Not the usual style I read, but glad I did! Wish I was part of a book club while I was reading it, has good topic discussion areas. Also seemed so real. #HelenSimonson #readingbooks

Just started this one today and am already captivated. Its protagonist is both a dear and vain man, his sense of honor is both praiseworthy and a crutch. The budding relationship of the fist few chapters is endearing and sweet, gilded as it is with autumn's colors. I look forward to seeing how it all turns out, though I am prepared for possible—if not inevitable—poignancy.

Finished it! What a wonderful book! I've listened to some interviews with the author, and she is charming, too. I highly recommend this book. It is a love story, and it handles some deeper issues of prejudice, class, and aging. This is one I'd read again.

I've been looking forward to reading this!
