Just finished this book yesterday. The first half of the book was the best where he tells entertaining stories about the history of memorization and it's decline. I also enjoyed the way he presents some of the basics of the memory sport and his dive into learning the skills. Second half was more interviews with Mental Athletes and savants plus his experience in the US Memory championship.

This is actually very entertaining and I'm enjoying the virtual walk thru memory lane to discover my memory palaces.

Kip @jim_kirkwood_jr How is the audio book. This is one I may buy on Audible and listen to after finishing the book to reinforce the concepts. Not that I want to compete in the championship, but it would be useful to remember so many things later in life.

Jim Kirkwood Jr The first part of the audio book is a LOT of background stuff, but once he gets into the actual process of how to remember things it is very interesting and I am amazed at how it works even for my memory.

Read the part about associating names by using word-play. Wondering if I should start that now, or wait until I finish the book so I get the whole memory training scheme down first.

Ok. Just read this part of the book and had to highlight it. "..[he was]simultaneously toying with writing a book titled "the Art of Introspection" and pursuing his cognitive science PhD at the University of Paris, where he was doing outré research with the aim of 'making people feel line their body has shrunk to a tenth of its normal size.' He was also working on inventing a new color - 'not just a new color, but a whole new way of seeing color.'". -- My mind just peed itself!

Got good reviews and god knows I could use a little help in this area. Just starting chapter 1 & there is enough humor and touch of mystery in there to peak my interest.

Foer's retelling of the Memory championship similar to state of rapture experienced by pre-pubescent kids at a spelling bee. Unique and engaging read.

Half done. I'm learning that most of my life I've been doing what's written about in this book about visual memory; for example, to remember a long number or list of numbers I've always imagined a pattern or dance of the numbers played over a number pad, like on a phone.
