Neuromancer is a 1984 novel by William Gibson, notable for being the most famous early cyberpunk novel. It was Gibson's first novel and the beginning of the Sprawl trilogy. The novel tells the story of a washed-up computer hacker hired by a mysterious employer to work on the ultimate hack. Gibson explores artificial intelligence, virtual reality, genetic engineering, and megacorporations long before these ideas entered popular culture.

Hiro Protagonist liked and reviewed this via GetGlue.com5 monthsSorry I'm so late to the party! I wish I had read this book when it first came out like so many of the other commentators on this book. Perhaps then I could have been swept up in the freshness of it's ideas and thrilled to by it's cyberpunkness. Alas, I was not. Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed Neuromancer and highly recommend it, but I didn't get a light from heaven while reading it and it won't change my life. In fact, I was distracted by some rather poor writing in places which made the characters hard to follow, I hope Mr Gibson's writing craft has improved since he wrote this book because I want to tackle more of his work. Neuromancer is a shining example of how great concepts, new and exciting ideas, can cover over the authors less than stellar writing skills.
