It's hard getting past the first few pages, unless you enjoy the ravings of a paranoid, vicious misanthrope. The rest of the story examines the life of a Russian man paralyzed into inaction by the trappings of modern society. He's much like a crab, neither walking forwards or backwards, but only sideways. It's an interesting read, but not a light one.
