Starting from the beginning. The BBC series really does a good job of capturing Sherlock's personality.

It is an open secret that the credit of this smart capture belongs entirely to the well-known Scotland Yard officials, Messrs. Lestrade and Gregson. The man was apprehended, it appears, in the rooms of a certain Mr. Sherlock Holmes, who has himself, as an amateur, shown some talent in the detective line, and who, with such instructors, may hope in time to attain to some degree of their skill. however, be it remembered, how objectless was my life, and how little there was to engage my attention. My health forbade me from venturing out unless the weather was exceptionally genial, and I had no friends who would call upon me and break the monotony of my daily existence. Under these circumstances, I eagerly hailed the little mystery which hung around my companion, and spent much of my time in endeavouring to unravel it. (с) Watson's life was meaningless, then he met Holmes and it got some sense. How sweet.

Pretty much Watson in chapter two, "I was really bored so I stared at Sherlock for weeks on end and then made a list of what he's faulty at." Love it so far!

Being a fan of both the recent movies and the BBC show, I figured it's about time I start reading the originals (lucky there are free copies available online, since this sudden urge to read them decided to present itself at 11:30 at night)... I just couldn't help but imagine Cumberbatch when Holmes shows up. I know I'm only one chapter in, but if this is anything to go by, Moffat and Cumberbatch seem to have captured Holmes' voice and personality absolutely perfectly!
