"Will, as anyone who has ever tried to give up smoking or start exercising should know too well, is the power humans have to act against our tendency towards inertia. Will motivates us to undertake hazardous journeys, build cathedrals and jet aircrafts, and change our lives. With strong enough willpower, we can alter our behavior, our surroundings, our beliefs and ourselves."

Current read. It's an interesting look at the characters that comprise the American Pantheon (super heroes), how they came about and what they say about American culture. Morrison has an almost divine ability to capture heady concepts in simple enough prose. Recommended to all fans of caped crusaders.

Then the superheros rained down across the Atlantic, in a dazzling prisom-light of heraldic jumpsuits, bringing new ways to see and hear and think about everthing."

Superhero history and philosophy. Took a long while before I read any insights I didn't already have (mostly Morrison's thoughts on his own work), but fun overall.

"In a world where wealth and celebrity are the measures of accomplishment, it's no surprise that the most popular superhero characters today - Batman and Iron Man" - are both handsome tycoons." Makes me wonder if Grant Morrison himself will do something to reinvigorate Superman in the light of the Occupy movement during his run penning Action Comics.

I picked this up on the recommendation of my brother David and haven't been able to put it down since Tuesday. I love the mix of history and personal reflection that Morrison brings to the comics field, and now I have more desire to check out the books of past ages that I usually wrote off as uninteresting.
