I am re-reading this book after at least a decade. I never forgot the names Cheradenine Zakalwe, Diziet Sma and Skaffen-Amtiskaw, they are some of the most memorable characters I have ever read. I am about halfway through and already shiver every time Zakalwe mentions that chair. Definitely Banks at his best. That I had already decided to read it again whilst I was reading Surface Detail gave me one of those moments of satisfaction second only to finding out what the Feersum Endjinn actually was. Highly recommended.

The end of this book was insanely good. I'm so glad that I stuck with it.

With less than 100 pages left, this book is finally starting to get good.

Trying to get dedicated for finishing this book. It just hasn't been as good as the other stuff from Banks that I have read.
