Just finished! So glad I finally got around to reading it after seeing the movie so many times. Surprised by both how well they stuck to the novel and how many things were changed/left out.

Watchmen deserves to be an ongoing franchise as much as most superheroes. People need to stop complaining.

Ethan Schaeffer @JediFriedChicken Take Star Wars. I like some things about the prequels, but they were nowhere near as good originals. They taint the image of Boba, making him a clone of Jango, along with the whole clone army. Completely stealing & undermining everything about him. They did the same w/ Darth Maul, making him a bigger, stronger brother, who looks like him in the cartoon show. -
Ethan Schaeffer @JediFriedChicken Part of what was great about Watchmen was the mystery, the loose threads that weren't answered. Did the Comedian murder Hooded Justice for the beating he gave him when he caught him attempting to rape his girlfriend? Sounds likely, but I like that you really don't know what happened.

Greg Douglass Watchmen may be the greatest comic of all time (at least tied with Y: The Last Man). That being said Moore didn't create most of the characters in this book. DC has every right to expand the mythos. It's good so why not? I agree that Watchmen works because it's such a perfectly contained comic story and probably the best graphic novel for showcasing what comics can do that no other medium can in terms of its art, storytelling technique and design (I love how complex patterns and symmetry are woven into the narrative). I don't think the series shouldn't be punished for being so good. They're selling out the brand no more than the continuation of any great series that people are passionate about. If it sucks it sucks (people can skip it) but DC is drowning and really needs a good series to reinvigorate things. Green Lantern and Batman are still pretty brilliant as DC goes but not much else.

ERICK @Electric_Elle Yep, they are all top-notch players. I think this is going to be awesome! As I said on Fidel's convo, I figured there's a great chance of being an awesome tribute to the original material...and if it isn't, we can always pretend it doesn't exist, like I do with both Robocop sequels and S. Darko, lol.

ERICK @Dragyn76 Damn, that's an awesome line-up of both writers and artists. I don't know how to feel, it can be totally awesome but it kinda feel so... wrong? Unnatural? Of course I'm reading though, Azzarello/Bermejo on Rorschach is a dream team, and I absolutely love everything by Darwyn Cooke.

So awesome, love how well this is drawn, even though its an old style. The story is rich and philosophical, allows for different interpretations but they're all great.
