The Academy & Mercedes-Benz Team Up with GetGlue for Oscar Night

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has reached out to GetGlue, the growing social network for entertainment, to help incentivize tune in and reward fans before and during the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. The Oscars air live on ABC at 8e/5p on Sunday, February 27.

The Oscars worked directly with GetGlue to create a unique set of GetGlue stickers that can be unlocked by movie fans around the world who check-in to the 83rd Annual Academy Awards. The sticker "You're Invited" can be earned ahead of the event that takes place on the evening of February 27. The "Best Picture Challenge" sticker encourages fans to check-in to the Oscars between now and the end of the telecast and name their pick for this year's best picture.

This is the first time a major event has integrated entertainment check-ins onto their website. Users will be able to check-in directly from Oscars.com, where they can get unprecedented backstage access during the awards show, or via the GetGlue apps to earn EXCLUSIVE stickers over the course of the night.

This partnership comes on the heels of our successful campaign with CBS for the Grammys, which had the highest ratings in a decade. GetGlue played a major role in capturing that young demographic by reaching over 8.5M people via Facebook and Twitter.

Mercedes-Benz USA - one of the official sponsors for this year's Oscars - has also partnered with GetGlue. Each Oscar sticker includes Mercedes-Benz USA branding and promotional messages. The advertisement is done in a playful way consistent with the spirit of GetGlue. The fans have to click on the Mercedes-Benz USA branding to the "peel" it off and unveil the actual Oscar sticker they've earned. This is GetGlue's first-ever sponsored sticker.

Additional Oscar Night Partnerships

GetGlue has also partnered with E! for a special set of stickers for their Live from the Red Carpet series, Fashion Police, and more. Users can start the night off watching celebrities walk down the red carpet picking out who's a Hot Mess and who's just plain Hot; tune-in to Fashion Police the next day to earn additional rewards.

To wrap up the night "Jimmy Kimmel Live!" is doing their post-Oscar special - their most viewed show of the year - which struck gold with last year's "Handsome Men's Club" viral video. The late-night show has also partnered with GetGlue to reward fans for checking-in. Previously GetGlue created successful campaigns with several other talk shows including Conan and The Ellen DeGeneres Show.
