An absolute masterpiece!Like in all the Coen brothers movies,there are many allusions in the film.In A Serious Man many of the allusions are mostly Biblical.Larry(masterly played by Michael Stuhlbarg) is a classic working man ( by occupation,a physicist and as we know modern physics strikes at the very heart of faith,mystery and their law) a good man to whom many bad things happen with no explanation..and just like in the bible as God speaking to Job from out of the whirlwind,saying He will not explain why these bad things have happened to him.The original Job had actual punishments and kept his faith.Our Job(Larry) has existential punishments and ends with a lack of faith.In this slow paced,blacker than black comedy,filled with a sea of subliminal messages we are presented with a with a huge paradox.
