Roy Andersson's first feature ranks among the greatest debuts in cinema. The simple tale of adolescent love is told with wonderfully subtle style. The two teenage leads are remarkably evocative and the softly glowing cinematography is top-notch. Very different from his later films, but it captures humanity with a similar authenticity and feeling. Truly great.
