katie my mom read these to me and my brother and when we were younger.. they are definitely allegorical, but they are just brilliant. i loved the voyaged of the dawn treader! which was your favorite?
-

Dennis E. Wilkinson As you said, Katie, "...they are (all) just brilliant." My favorite is still the first. :D I bought the whole set for my son hoping it would improve his English (We live in Japan, so he's more fluent in Japanese.) but you know kids now-a-days .... *shrugs* If it hasn't been done yet, someone's probably making a computer game out of it that would catch his attention. ;)
-

katie there are actually video games based on the movies! if it is any consolation, my younger brother was never too in to the books, much to my mom's dismay, but he recently turned 18 and has been getting in to those, Lord of the Rings, and Harry Potter. how old is your son? maybe he will get excited eventually! there's hope!
-

Dennis E. Wilkinson Same age, actually, Katie. He'll be 19 in April ... Just after I turn 66. Ouch! At the moment, he's in the middle of what they call "Examination Hell" here in Japan, so we can hardly get a word in or out of his mind from time to time. But as my Sister, post graduate of two former teenage sons, now both in successful careers, happily married with their own kids; as She said, "Wait until after the exams." .... Then, as you say, Katie, "There's Hope!" I hope ;)
-

katie see that is probably the difference between your son and my brother.. while your son is going through examination hell, my brother is coasting through his senior year of high school with nothing other than a health/fitness class, so naturally he has plenty of time to catch up on readings!
-

Dennis E. Wilkinson He's coasting, too, Katie. During that solar eclipse, he rode his bicycle to Kagoshima, so he could get better viewing, then stayed there for a week and missed a chance to get accepted to Scuba University by interview instead of exam. Ironically, the viewing was nearly perfect at 90% here in Nagasaki, but it rained in Yaku Shima, where he'd gone for a theoretical 100% viewing. Hm... Reminds me of my RPG character, Lotsaluck Albad. ;(
-

katie Scuba University? does that have anything to do with SCUBA diving? (forgive my ignorance..)
-

Dennis E. Wilkinson Hm... Could be some SCUBA diving there in relation to Oceanography or some such, I suppose, Katie. Scuba U. is famous for it's scientific research, and my son's interested because he attends a "Super-Science" H.S. in Nagasaki that has that status for the original research done by their Biology Club:
Here's a bit from a paper I edited for my son:
... in Japan it has been responsible for a decrease in honey production by eating the legume Chinese Milk Vetch, which is a favorite food of Japanese bees. That's why several Japanese university agricultural departments and other experts have been searching for a way to exterminate hypera postica unfortunately without success to date. In 2004 while Nagasaki West High School Biology Club was collecting insects at Mt. Inasa we found hypera postica and learned how destructive it was, so we decided to research about how to control it. ...
Based on their research, they finally designed a simple trap out of household materials, so.that was cool.
-

katie wow, that is really cool! best of luck to him!
-

Dennis E. Wilkinson Thanks, katie. Like I said though, he missed his chance to take advantage of that by not getting to the interview due to that eclipse-viewing bike trip. Sigh!
Well, I'm off to study editing Wikipedia for awhile. Be back later, much l-a-t-e-r. Bye
