The first third presents a history of the science of weather forecasting and a look at the western US expansion happening in the late 1800's. This section is fantastic.
The second third looks at the history of Galveston and the politics of the young Weather Bureau in the US. This is also interesting.
The final third is a detailed account of the destruction brought by the Hurricane on Galveston. This part was difficult to get through due to the staggering amount of lives lost.
It's Larson's first book of this sort and thanks to the final third, its my least favorite of all of his efforts.
