My absolute favorite Don Bluth film to date, hands down. The cast is perfect, the characters are great, the artistry is stunning, the music is awesome. Just the perfect kind of animated film ever - and, unlike most Disney princesses, this girl kicks butt!

Jenna Marie X I should also mention - I liked it so much that I named one of my furbebbes Anya.

gauravguptaster I totally agree with you! This was my first favourite animated movie as a child; it still is. And this is the perfect kind of animated film.

Jenna Marie X It really is so much fun. I probably watch it about every 6 months. The artistry is still superb even next to newer animation.

gauravguptaster Agreed. I wonder why the team who made this movie did not make other movies?!

Jenna Marie X You know, that's an excellent question! Don Bluth made several good movies through the 80's culminating in this one which I think is his best by far, in 1997... and then nothing?? I'll have to do some research and see if I can figure out what happened.

Jenna Marie X Okay, according to IMDB:

"His [Don Bluth's] team was disbanded after FOX Animation Studios shut down. Currently, he has his own website, donbluthanimation.com, where you can find tutorials, a discussion forum, and instructional DVDs."

Regarding Titan A.E., which came out shortly after Anastasia in the late 1990's: "Basically, Fox mismanaged the project and brought in Bluth to save it, and when the movie ended up flopping Fox blamed him and disbanded their animation company."

gauravguptaster That explains a lot of things. What a shame it had to end this way and for someone so talented. Imagine if Don Bluth and Miyazaki ever worked on a movie together ;)
