        Matthew Clower Tom Hanks really has been a great actor producing performances that were very notable before these movies, but the movies which really got the world to notice him were really all around the same time. While I agree that he did a great job in Philadelphia, I don't think world noticed him until Forrest Gump which was immediately followed by Apollo 13 -- that's when the world said, "Oh, he's good."

        sinkfist @matthewclower yup. Big, Philadelphia, Forest Gump, apollo 13, saving Private Ryan. All classics. Yore right though, hump had the mass appeal that transcended it all.
