Brilliant and crazy and deeply provocative. It's one of the most amazing statements about Germany and WWII, but without being in any way a typical take on that story. It's not in any way about the Holocaust, essentially. It's a very personal story about a man that sheds light on Germany itself during that period.

        bill baxter German?
Was forcibly ejected from my senior English class for being unmanageable and forced to read this novel and write a paper on it. Are you guys all like that, or was it just my teacher?

rraleigh Wait, who is "you guys"? Since I'm neither German nor a teacher. Or do you mean people who like this book? :)

bill baxter No, I'm a 'people who liked this book.' Thought it was incredible (yes, even in forced study hall) Difficult for me to admit that the dragon lady was right. 'You guys' is Germans. My apologies if I'm off target.
