      The Crying of Lot 49

I recently read this book to try to get a little taste of Pynchon, and I really liked it! I realized that Pynchon had a very unique writing style right away, and after a couple pages I really settled into the groove of it and flew through the rest of the book. I've never read anything quite like it before and I'm definitely looking forward to reading some more Pynchon. Does anyone have any suggestions? I was thinking Inherent Vice or Gravity's Rainbow...

Rich Rennicks I loved V. It's clever, fast-paced and a well-sustained performance. Gravity's Rainbow is crazy, but so long that it demands a serious time investment (else you start to miss the little asides and details that build only if you remember the last time something came up 300 pages back...).

I have a soft spot for Vineland. Some complain it's not as "profound" as the other books, but it's certainly entertaining.
