Born in Rochdale, Lancashire, England, on July 12, 1976, Anna Friel launched her acting career early, appearing on the BBC series "G.B.H." when she was only 14. A few years later, she landed a high-profile role on the British soap opera "Brookside," making history by participating in British television's first lesbian kiss.As a young adult, Friel added notable theater and film credits to her résumé. She starred in the Broadway premiere of Patrick Marber's powerful stage play, "Closer," winning Drama Desk and Theatre World awards for her portrayal of Alice, a stripper.
She also joined the cast of A Midsummer Night's Dream and starred with Ewan McGregor in Rogue Trader.Friel made her American television debut on the short-lived Fox drama "The Jury."
