While Dominic may not be a household name, his star has been rising steadily since he was introduced to an international audience courtesy of his appearance in Mission: Impossible II. In 2002, he was cast as the title character on John Doe, a role that was intended to introduce him to the U.S, but the series was canceled after one season. Since then, Dominic has been seen in a handful of TV series and in a few major movie roles such as Equilibrium (2002), 3-Way (2004) and Blade: Trinity.

In 2005, he finally landed the role of Lincoln Burrows on Prison Break, a part that has made him a recognizable TV star. Though Purcell has yet to win an award for his part, the show has already been recognized; it has won the People's Choice Award for Favorite New Television Drama, and has garnered nominations for Outstanding New Program of the Year from the Television Critics Association and Best Television Series at the 2006 Golden Globe Awards.
