A boyishly handsome actor whose looks are often compared to Leonardo DiCaprio's, Emile Hirsch was born on March 13, 1985, in Topanga, Calif. He began acting before the age of 10, earning small roles in made-for-TV movies and on television shows such as "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch" and "ER."Hirsch made his film debut with The Dangerous Lives of Altar Boys (2002) and added other credits to his résumé, including The Girl Next Door and Lords of Dogtown. But landing the lead in Into the Wild (2007), writer-director Sean Penn's big-screen adaptation of the best-selling book of the same name, proved to be a pivotal career move.
His portrayal of an ill-fated adventurer earned him critical acclaim and set him up to work with Penn again on the big-screen biopic Milk.In 2008, Hirsch also put himself in the driver's seat of a film adaptation of an iconic comic book, taking on the title role in Speed Racer.
