Born 1892 and began his acting career on the stage. He was one of the few actors to successfully make the switch from silent pictures to sound. Had two popular film detective series, Philo Vance and Nick Charles, but became more well-known for the latter.
He received three Academy Award nominations for The Thin Man, My Man Godfrey and Life with Father.
Re-watched My Man Godfrey (1936) for the umpteenth time earlier followed by Double Harness (g1933). Also shown The Last Mrs Cheyney (1937) and High Pressure (1932).
Watched "Star of Midnight" co-starring Ginger Rogers. And that's that. Currently playing on TCM is Crossroads co-starring Basil Rathbone followed by Sherlock Holmes.
Can't think of Myrna Loy without thinking of William Powell. Great, great actor. His banter with Loy in the Thin Man movies is just priceless! They don't make 'em like they used to.
