Many sequels don't make it but this is one that was sure to please! I loved every part of this movie - From Ripley coming out of her induced sleep to Vance Hendrickson's knife trick to "Get away from her, you bitch!" This movie is easily a favorite among many people.

I think any filmmaker can make a sequel, but it takes something to be able to build on it so much that your additions become the norm for a franchise. James Cameron's "Aliens" is a case in point. The first Alien showed the effect of one alien on a large ship. Aliens took that and escalated it. "What if someone landed on that planet, actually lived there and found these things? What would be the impact?" Cameron added to the franchise with the concept of the Alien Queen (affectionately named "Regina" and designed by Cameron and Stan Winston), along with the Marines. Back in '86, this movie did so good, they were tieing advertisements for Cronenberg's "The Fly" to it to help boost sales of that film, and remains one of the great popcorn films out there (as well as a strong contender for best in the Alien Franchise). Everyone talked about it - You couldn't pull people away from this one. Ironically, like Blade Runner, there's very little in the film that dates it, which helps the film.

Number 1 on my list of sequels that are better than the original. They just got this one perfectly right- the ensemble cast, the dialogue, the mood, and of course, lots and lots of explosions and shooting. I can quote this movie verbatim, which is very annoying, but at least I'm usually not the only one in the room doing it.

How do you improve on a classic (Ridley Scott's Alien)? By making the sequel bigger, badder and equally as scary as the original. James Cameron succeeds on every level and creates the greatest sci-fi action movie of all time.

MY paradigm of Hollywoods mistaken sequel-strategy
1st - STORY BASED FILM
suspense, atmosphere, story & a few well placed special fx - one single alien, that's wrecking havoc on a whole ship and is all but invincible
2nd - INFLATIONARY "MORE OF ALL (except stord)" FILM
hundreds of Aliens which pose (in effect) less threat than one
no suspense
fire power times 1000......
thrill but no suspense
atmosphere beginning to leak out of the script
....
3rd and on- PSEUDO PHILOSOPHY & HALF HEARTET WARM UP's FILMs

A very good sequel. Quite different than Alien, this is more an action film. Unfortunately after this one the Alien franchise went downhill. The Alien vs. Predator movies were a farce.
