Ioan Gruffud is always at his sexiest when he gets his period drama on and this is a spectacular, beautiful film about the battle of William Wilberforce who was trying to abolish the slave trade in 18th century England. It's not entirely heavy and dramatic, the almost brotherly partnership between Gruffud's Wilberforce and Benedict Cumberbatch's William Pitt (who later becomes Prime Minister) has some light comedic moments that are brilliantly delivered.
It almost seems that our hero won't get to see the light at the end of the day, but thankfully he does. Make sure you pack some tissues!

All I notice are small smiles and chuckles of Benedict. SIR, YOU NEED TO STOP. YOU ARE RUINING MY LIFE WITH YOUR PERFECT FACE

Thus continues the Cumberbatch film fest.

What a beautiful movie. Everyone in it is superb. Ioan Gruffudd, Romola Garai, Benedict Cumberbatch, Albert Finney, Michael Gambon, Rufus Sewell and Youssou N'Dour.
I may have cried at the end.

Ioan Gruffudd is such an amazing actor, and not bad looking either.

The slave trade still exists today. Don't be so self-deceived to believe otherwise. As you read this the wheeling and dealing for human beings continues.

this is one of the most beautiful movies i have ever watched. if you like british high quality productions with great cast, great story and very high budget this is your choice.Next to Amastad this movie is a wonderful example of human compassion and the will to speak up against those who would destroy Love. And, no he didnt fall in love with a slave. it gave me goose bumps and made me cry. i give it undoubtedly an 11/10.
