Based on the true story of the ill-fated 13th Apollo mission bound for the moon. Astronauts Lovell, Haise and Swigert were scheduled to fly Apollo 14, but are moved up to 13. It's 1970, and America have already achieved their lunar landing goal, so there's little interest in this "routine" flight..until that is, things go very wrong, and prospects of a safe return fade.
One of those rare films that you feel like a part of it, and time does not take the magic away. For those reasons and for the brilliant acting, this movie is one of my all time top 5
The Great American Story. No matter how many times I watch this movie, it brings back memories of when I was a kid watching the Apollo rockets taking off.
Watching Apollo 13 and thinking about my grandfather. He never made it to space, but co-wrote the classic book of astrodynamics and did help to get 3 of them back.
- "Hey, Houston, we've had a problem here."
- "Say again, please?"
- "Ah, Houston, we've had a problem."
AND
"Houston, we have a problem."
AND
"Failure is not an option." Oh Mr. Hanks we all agree.
