Haven't watched this since the 80s! All I remember as a kid was I didn't like the pacing of it. I often fell asleep watching it actually. But it's successors (The Mighty Ducks, The Sandlot, etc) held my attention and made it into my personal collection. Claiming to sometimes be a purist where movies are concerned I think I finally can appreciate this. :)

One of the greatest baseball movies ever - nobody has ever played the role of a grizzled old, broken-down ex-ballplayer more convincingly than Matthau.
