Not sure if i'd recommend this film. 20 something immature hipster fodder with a cool camera.
-
William Scholl It isn't perfect but I found it enjoyable and highly ambitious. I think it works very well as a chauvinistic revenge fantasy/delusion. -
Tommy Valdez @willxcore I would say that the two aspects of the film I enjoyed (outside of the camera) were the "Is this really happening?" ending and the idea that as they aspired to live in this end times gang... their lives, currently, were already a hell on earth. With that said, it's slightly misogynistic. Women were fickel and disposable. The characters were one dimensional, but I'm not sure if that's a script or poor acting issue. -
William Scholl @thomasav lots of flicks get unfairly criticized for being misogynistic but I think that's partly the point of the story. Clearly we're dealing with characters with screwed up philosophies anyway, as you point out. A friend of mine complained that comparisons to fight club were way off point but I disagree, both films attempt to show a "cooler than cool" flashy show of what machoism is like but only in the male mind. Beneath it all is a soft center that longs for acceptance. You grasp the ambiguity of the films ending and that, to me, proves that Woodrow really just wishes that everything would have gone right with his gf, which empowers the character more than defaces her.
