Jenna Marie X liked and reviewed this from Steverman's recent things2 monthsThis is one of Burton's "lighter" films - although it's still packed with meat, symbolism, and colorful characters. Albert Finney is brilliant in everything he touches, and although I'm not usually a Ewan McGregor fan, he's great in this.
At the first viewing, I wasn't really sure if I liked it or not - but it definitely stuck with me, and I kept thinking about it. So I rented it again, and really enjoyed it a lot the second time through. It's highly quirky and different, which is part of why I like it so much. All the crazy characters and wacky adventures are fun, and the whole film has such a sense of mystery and wonder to it, sort of an adult fairy tale. The message, and particularly the ending, are extremely moving - I always cry, but they're happy tears. May be the most emotionally touching Burton film to date.
