In this Stanley Kubrick classic based on Anthony Burgess's novel, teenage miscreant Alex DeLarge (Malcolm McDowell) wanders aimlessly amid a bleak, futuristic urban landscape, drinking drugged milk and listening to Beethoven with his fellow "droogs." But he also spends his time stealing, raping and beating innocent people in nihilistic orgies of violence, all in an attempt to get his nightly kicks.

@Sandra: I have seen A Clockwork Orange. It's brilliant and very funny. I think that Kubrick used violence in it just like Quentin Tarantino did in Inglourious Basterds. It's so over the top that it becomes quite funny.

Stanley Kubrick took an incomprehensible tale of the mischief and mayhem of disaffected youth and a crumbling social system and turned it into one of the most beautifully rendered, bizarrely redemptive and fascinating films made in the 20th century. The language, Nadsat, is a wonder in it's own right. The author of the book, Anthony Burgess, originally intended the lead character, Alex DeLarge (played by Malcolm McDowell who can now be seen in Heroes playing Linderman) to be 14 years old and his "droogs" between 16 and 17. The idea of Alex being only 14 when he does the terrible and amazing things he does is truly a unique look into the mind of a disturbed, if brilliant, youth. Bonus points if you know who or what Lucy is in the film.

My view of Clockwork Orange is that Kubrick took a 180 degree turn from his earlier work of Mad,Mad,Mad,Mad World and Dr Strangelove and turned in this masterpiece of what is wrong with the world. In fact, in a way he used Eyes Wide Shut to continue his vision of Clockwork, by showing the moral ineptitude of man and the lack of inner beliefs that lead to our fall!
