Watched this last night, actually

I love Chinese movies!!!! They just throw people and cash at them and come out with a great product. Dee does well blending a story with the fight scences.

Watching Chinese movie Detective Dee and the Mystery of the Phantom Flame on blu-ray.

thinks Tsui Hark is one of the great directors. And more movies should have martial arts sequences involving deer.

Overdid the walking today so catching up on a movie while giving the ankle a rest. So far, this has a Sherlock Holmes vibe set in 7th century China. I'm glad Andy Lau got the lead. Much as I love Jet Li, I can't see him delivering the comic bits quite as well. And Sammo Hung did the fight directing on this so the fight scenes are as entreating to watch as they usually are. Yay!

Its a action-fantasy movie somewhat in the style of Crouching Tiger.. Huge set, video-game-like fluid-fighting.. So.. I like. :)

Hoping for a Tsui Hark classic but it's a pale imitation of his best work.
