An intriguing ghost story. Not as intense or creepy as I expected, but still a good film.

This creepy and paranormal horror has such a rich storyline and characters. Love, betrayal, war, humanity, greed, redemption… They are all covered and it just oozes quality and film making excellence.

A ghost story set in a remote orphanage during the Spanish civil war. Guillermo Del Toro delivers us another tale of fear and woe and the children who endure and survive among the horrors. Though I found the cinematography lacking the depth and beauty of "Pan's Labyrinth", Del Toro nevertheless gives us an equally powerful story with a moral being that, among all the things that go bump in the night, in the end the things we should fear are the shadows within ourselves. I definitely recommend this film.

Uma obra de arte, del Toro sempre retratando bem os horrores da guerra civil espanhola mesclado a suas pitadas de sobrenatural.

[9/10] This is one good example for me of watching a film and not knowing what it is about and be rewarded for it. Yes, the trailer promises that its a ghost story and asks the provocative question "What is a ghost?". But that's not the one that held me all throughout. It was the story itself and the good storytelling prowess that del Toro has usually when he's at his best. I hope to see Fernando Tielve in another film soon after this one. Its his Santino facial expression that assured me that everything's going to be fine in the end. All in all, I'd say that along with Pan's Labyrinth, this is going to be another favorite.

Without any knowledge as to what this film is really about, it's turning into a really interesting film only del Torro knows how to.

What the hell is the Bear Jew doing here during the Spanish Civil War? Do the Basterds know about this?
