This movie is marvelous piece of art! An excellent visual experience, even greater story with that perfect Del Toro's way of combining reality with imagination. Must say this also: this is not a horror movie, but has several slightly scaring scenes.

Fantastic little suspense/horror movie! The setting and cinematography really is amazing, great story, genuinely freaky at times. One of GDT's gems!

Set during the Spanish Civil war, within an orphanage of young boys, this story begins with young Carlos being brought to the orphanage. The story slowly reveals the murder of a young resident and the greed of an old resident who has since become the caretaker of the orphanage which has an unnerving link.

Quite a sombre and dark story of love, treachery, greed and revenge this film is compelling from beginning to end. From my initial reading of this film I was expecting a terrifying horror story but Guillermo Del Toro has delivered an intriguing ghost story.

Visually beautiful and a cast that delivers this film perfectly, this is a story which must be seen.

This was my intro to Guillermo del Toro. One of the few times I bought a movie off the shelf without any idea of what it was.

Last half hour is amazingly insane.

Those eyes... still creep me out. Very good film. A must-see for horror buffs.
