Another great, little known movie. Robert Duvall (who makes me even more want to be a hermit), Bill Murray (as slick and Joe cool always).

Sharon Stocker I don't know that Duvall choose to be a hermit - I think he choose not to share his vulnerability because of his intense shame around the anguish he felt for his actions. I agree a great movie. -
Lincoln Blanco It's obvious he is punishing himself for sleeping with a married woman that lead to her husband killing her. But I personally love the whole privacy of being a hermit. Especially in a world today filled with idiots. Makes me want to find a place high in the mountains away from it all. That's what I meant

Awesome movie. Might seem slow for those who love their action, but its top level acting all round and a great story (IMO)
