Just finished this. I'm glad I watched it. There were all kinds of social messages as well as ones about human nature in general, that were pretty advanced for such an old movie. I found all three of the main characters interesting and liked their development. I think this would be a neat movie to see re-done. I want to read the book now.

Hard to believe this movie premiered in NYC on Oct 10 '56.

It stars Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and James Dean, in his last film appearance. Texan rancher Bick Benedict visits a Maryland farm to buy a prize horse. While there he meets and falls in love with the owner's daughter Leslie, they are married immediately and return to his ranch. The story of their family and its rivalry with cowboy and (later oil tycoon) Jett Rink unfolds across two generations.
