Mais um classico do terror.

This horror movie is just a classic. Even though it has been re-made, I still watch the original.

Scary for sure, but I didn't think it was all that. Like Friday the 13th, part II was way, way better than part I. Thought the remake of this was a huge improvement. Except for the part with the rats, that was pretty weak.

The granddaddy of all slashers, Halloween has been often imitated, but never equaled even my its remakes and sequels. Carpenter's use of music, point of view shots and play with light and shadow are some of the best in the business.

With this film, John Carpenter pays homage to Hitchock's Psycho, while simultaneously reimagining it for a new generation. It served as an often-imitated but never-replicated template for all of the slasher horror films that followed. It is a testament to Carpenter's brilliance that it manages to be so terrifying with a minimum of gore! I was also always impressed that Carpenter scored the music for most of his movies. Although he didn't have much musical training, his scores were fantastic, and the main theme is one of the best ever for a horror film!

One of, if not THE best Horror movie ever

I re-watched Halloween a few months ago and was surprised at how well it holds up. It's not a gorefest, but Carpenter does a good job ratcheting up tension to unbearable levels. Some of the best sequences are ones in which the audience knows Michael Myers is hiding around the corner and could dispatch his victims at any moment, but instead of going ahead, he seems to bide his time. This threatens to fray the viewer's nerves; however, it also adds to the enigmatic nature of the killer.
As someone else on this forum pointed out, Halloween can be interpreted as Carpenter's take on Psycho, but one area where he takes the opposite tact as Hitchcock is in not trying to tidy things up. Instead of psychoanalyzing Myers' motives, Dr. Loomis states early on that he's "pure evil," which is all the explanation needed. Ultimately, the lack of much back story makes Myers into a destructive force that defies comprehension, which in and of itself is highly-unsettling. - Vixen Lenore on January 26, 2010 at 8:17amVixen Lenore favorited Halloween from Jenna Surber's recent things
