This sweeping TV biopic of Hitler (Robert Carlyle) recounts the dictator's early years, including his Austrian boyhood and his time as a struggling artist in Vienna, and ends with his rise to the German chancellorship in 1934. Along the way, the film examines how Germany's economic and political climate enabled his ascent. The cast features Matthew Modine as anti-Nazi journalist Fritz Gerlich and Peter O'Toole as German leader von Hindenberg.
