I'm going to give this faux documentary a try, even though Phoenix's whole Andy Kaufman-like mind-trip was so obviously fake. Seems like overkill just to make a film
-
Kaili yeeaaahh, have fun with this one. lol It's uh...kinda just gets sadder after awhile... -
Fleisch I agree. Except for the part about giving it a try. -
Piera Ive always liked Pheonix, what's sad is I would have enjoyed a character study documentary of a famous actor wanting to chronicle a media circus if he decided to change careers - *if* he had let he audience in on the joke so we could go along for the ride. But instead it felt like he was mimicing the late Andy Kaufman who did all those stunts and more just to see how people would react. He also suffered for it at the time, but what a great legacy he left. Phoenix just came off as a copy. Ah well

From IMDB: there is a scene where Joaquin Phoenix is sitting with his father, at a table, drinking beers. In reality, this man isnot Joaquin Phoenix's father, but actually Casey Affleck and Ben... more

Stacey Regardless of the controversy about the authenticity or lack thereof of this "documentary with a question mark," it was a great film! I was riveted.

Jenn31872 @tracy_davis let me know how this movie is. I've heard it was a joke. -
Myst ya they call it a mockumentory basically its him pretending to have a breakdown and quitting acting to become a rapper I don't really know what I was expecting but I think if I knew it was this I wouldn't have watched it. Kind of a waste of the last 2 hours of my life.... -
Stacey @tracy_davis I don't disagree with you, but I'm so glad I watched it. Although the situations were "cooked" and the "documentary" (ha!) was created at least in large part as an unscripted film, I understand that there are parts that show him as he really is, even within a cooked scenario. But whether that's true or not, to me it's an I interesting film from a rhetorical perspective. I have no desire to see it again, but I'm so glad I watched it for the subtext and rhetorical nuance. Weird though! ;-)
