I was there during the war. This was an accurate portrayal of events. In my opinion, genocide & ethnic cleansing are the greatest sin and greatest evil of all no matter who the victims or criminals or what the causes are. This war was unspeakable, tragic & senseless. Hell gained a lot more occupants from these events. When will humanity evolve beyond the apes? The film did a great job of highlighting the duality of human nature in love & war.

Finally getting to watch this. Hope it is as good as it looks from the preview.

This was billed as a love story but to me it's more like Stockholm Syndrome where an obsessed man keeps a woman prisoner and rapes her all the time. For a love story it was completely one sided because I never got the feeling she felt anything for him other than fear.

Read all about this in Vanity Fair and am anxious to see how it is.

By the time the second woman was being raped, I had to turn it off.

This movie should have taken Best Picture but The Iron Lady was less disturbing.

I had great expectations. They were only partially met by this film written and directed by Angelina Jolie. It seems she was more interested in telling the story that muslim Bosnian women were systematically raped by Serbian soldiers and their husbands either killed or thrown into concentration camps while neither Europe nor the US did much to stop it. And so even at two hours this scope was far too limited. The Serbians committed unspeakable atrocities that were supported by the Serbian people and condoned and ignored by a despicable, lazy, ignorant world. This film missed or rather, failed to tell too much. Much of what I mention here was simply ignored. And Angelina failed by choosing to limit herself to basically telling a love story during a horrendous and senseless war. A war that too few know about, understand and is too shamelessly eclipsed by the Holocaust. A missed opportunity here. A shame indeed.

Hope its as good as the previews make it look!

This was a surprisingly good film. Kudos to first time director Angelina Jolie. This tells a very tragic and unusual love set in Bosnia during the war between the Serbs and the Muslims. The film portrays most Serbs as heartless thugs, but the love story at the center of the film is provocative and bizarre considering all that is happening. The ending is sad and tragic and conversation worthy when thinking if one of the lovers was betrayed or not. Overall a brilliant film with great performances and great direction.

Finally getting to see this Angelina Jolie production. But afraid I will be depressed missing my childhood BFF - we fell out over this subject matter, and it still stings.

Wonder how Angie directed in a foreign language. These subtitles are a lot of work...
