BD Wong's scene in this film is one of my favorite movie moments ever.

I always tear up when Mr. Miyagi's father dies. So sad.

Finished the 1st kid movie and now onto The Karate Kid Part II. Hope I can go back to Okinawa one day to see my mom's side of the family.

Inferior but watchable 1986 sequel has Daniel and Miyagi travel to Okinawa to see Miyagi's ailing father. But Miyagi's old best friend-turned-nemesis Sato still hold's a grudge! And Sato's got himself a gang of crazy, evil teenagers, too! Picks up immediately after the end of the first film (I mean literally, it starts in the parking lot as the crowd is leaving the tournament) but casually disregards all kinds of details (Daniel races off to Japan and starts telling girls he's single...what about Elizabeth Shue?). Still, Pat Morita is tons of fun as the real protagonist here.
