Watched a Kung Fu film today, a Samurai film, and now a John Woo Shootout movie...if I watch a Kaiju film then I will have covered almost all the forms of Asian action movies.

A stylish thriller, but couldn't it have been a little more homoerotic? ;) Just kidding. Liked it a lot.

A masterpiece of Hong Kong action cinema. Written/directed by John Woo, and starring Chow Yun-Fat as disillusioned master assassin Ah Jong, who takes "one last job" to try to clear his guilty conscience. At excellent as, if not better, than Woo's later 'Hard Boiled'. Looks amazing in Dragon Dynasty's Blu-ray.

Jeff C. Chow Yun-Fat is the epitome of 80's ultracool. Standing there slick and unflinching, dishing out round after round. In 'Transormers', this very behaviour was chilling and misplaced; here, it punctuates Woo's murder ballet and adds dimension to Chow's portrayal of the haunted Killer.

Jeff C. A lot of people think 'paired .45s' as the John Woo signature; personally, I would point to the way he gets his actors to alternately thrust their hands forward in time to their shots fired, as though punching the bullets toward their targets. It's a nice touch.

Jeff C. New combatants in white matching tracksuits arrive for the fight by diving out of a moving car into a tuck-and-roll.

OOP Criterion: the slow-motion shots, fast cuts, silence & selective noise, make for a heart-pounding action flick!
