Outstanding in so many ways. Was going to be my first film of 2012 but got sidetracked.

Film noir and TCM! Ralph Meeker doesn't, however, fit my mental image of the character. Read a lot of Spillane in my "youth".

I understand now why they say it's an atomic thriller. And it's always fascinating for me to see the past incantation of los angeles, if I had a complaint about this film it's that I would have loved some scenes in downtown or other landmarks but that's a small personal thing, interesting film of the 50' s

What a crazy odd flick. The ending was surreal. Looks great on Criterion Blu.

Amazingly cynical blending of noir and cold war thrillers. Criterion blu looks amazing as always. Meeker is top notch.

Fantastic over-the-top (even for Mickey Spillane) Mike Hammer tale of barefoot crazy dames, immigrants va-va-voom, fast cars, faster Los Angeles, all tied together by Ralph Meeker's Method manliness. Its bravura finish is a direct inspiration for Pulp Fiction and Raiders of the Lost Ark; the rest of the film, in its sardonicism and amorality, anticipate the antiheroes of 1970s New American Cinema.

Another Blu-ray acquisition in the B&N "50% off Criterion" sale. Ralph Meeker: criminally underrated.
