The first time I saw this film was several years ago in San Francisco when they released the remastered edition and showed it in theaters across the country. I'd listened to the audio recording 100s of times in college, knowing it like the back of my hand, but always wished I had seen it and not just heard it. I always put that version of "Caravan" on mixtapes (remember those??) in college, Robbie R. giving me the perfect cue when to stop the recording--right after he says "Van the man!". To see it for the first time how it should be shown, on the big screen, gave me chills. I saw it a couple more times in theaters and now I own the blu-ray. I'll never forget that first time though. Levon Helm was a trailblazer for singing drummers; one of the hardest things musically to do. RIP Levon..your drumming and voice was par excellence. "And I swear by the mud below my feet/You can't raise a Cain back up when he's in defeat..."

I watched this one while Christmas shopping online after a suggestion from some friends. It was ok, something nice in the background.
