Whoops I made a mistake, Benigni wasn't trying to make fun of Holocaust; instead, through his role as Guido, he tried to assure Joshua that there was nothing to be afraid of, he visualized the Death Camp as a fun fantasy, as a game of earning points with a tank as a reward, every time he learnt that his son found out a new fact about Holocaust, again he would try to create another fantasy.

Benigni unusually blend WWII holocaust story with slapstick comedy but it managed to steal the world's attention, giving him a boost in career.
